Adaptation

Definition

Adaptation is a process to cope with the changing environment. It is  the adjustment in natural or human system in the response to actual or expected climate stimuli or their effects with moderator’s harm or exploits beneficial opportunities. Adaptation is the action or process of adapting or being adapted.

Types of Adaptation

Their are three (3) main types of adaptation.

  1. Community based adaptation
  2. Structural adaptation
  3. Non-structural adaptation

Community based adaptation

  • Floating agriculture.
  • Fish culture in cage.
  • Home stead gardening in drought prone area.
  • Mini pond excavation for supplementary irrigation system.
  • Drought resistant crop variety.
  • Short matured crop variety.
  • Rain water harvesting.
  • Sand bar pumpkin.
  • Diversification of livelihood pattern.
  • Agro-forest.
  • Duck rearing.
  • Carp culture.
  • Mobile chula/improve stove use.

Structural Adaptation

Practice for improving problems is called as structural adaptation. Such as,

  • Primary treatment.
  • Increase awareness by Palagan, Miking.
  • Food processing.
  • Investing money or food.

Non-structural Adaptation

  • Awareness build up.
  • Capacity build up.
  • Training / Education.
  • Rules & Regulation.
